Montgomery Chamber of Commerce issued the following announcement on April 8.

Montgomery, Ala. – April 8, 2019 – Today, TechMGM, Montgomery Area Chamber of Commerce’s initiative to connect and leverage Montgomery’s unique technology assets, officially announced the formation of a University Technical Steering Group. Faulkner University is the latest organization to join the group, which includes Alabama State University, Auburn University Montgomery, Trenholm State Community College and Troy University Montgomery. The University Technical Steering Group will implement a variety of programs to prepare area students for a higher wage, skilled work environment that is growing in Montgomery.

“We are excited to announce this joint initiative that will hone our collective ability, more efficiently prepare students for the IT workforce in Montgomery and show local employers that there are qualified individuals ready to support and grow their businesses,” says Charisse Stokes, executive director of TechMGM. “Engaging these key stakeholders of the tech ecosystem will help set the stage to boost our workforce development efforts, and ultimately benefit our community and economy.”

The University Technical Steering Group will bring together local and regional community colleges, universities and top IT employers to encourage an exchange of ideas, opportunities and events that will include internships, certifications, full time employment, training activities and mentorships. This new development will allow employers in Montgomery to gain insight and provide input into current collegiate degree programs. This group will also provide students with the tools they need to become successful industry leaders.
