Gadsden Chamber of Commerce issued the following announcement on July 10.

LAS VEGAS, NV – Architects from the Gulf States Region of the American Institute of Architects gathered in Las Vegas during their annual national convention to celebrate their 2019 Honor Awards. The Honor Awards program identifies built works of distinction and excellence by architects from Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Tennessee. Of the 169 entries submitted by the architects practicing in the Gulf States Region, five projects were recognized with the highest honor - the Honor Award, for their innovative solutions to the design challenges presented.

Chambless King Architects was honored to be one of the five recipients of an Honor Award for The Montgomery Interpretive Center at Alabama State University.

Juror’s comments were as follows: “This museum, designed to commemorate the events and route of the 1965 march from Selma to Montgomery, is an architecturally elegant building. Its design with the use of solid and transparent planes and surfaces provide legible and clear processional sequences in an ordered and dynamic manner. The use of natural materials to soften wall textures, also bring a sense of scale. Of particular note is the graceful exterior ramp for accessibility and passage into the covered exterior entry. The use of a sandblasted limestone wall on the front of the museum to create an image of the march was particularly inspiring.”

With offices located in Montgomery and Birmingham, Chambless King is a multi-discipline architectural firm that offers a variety of services related to architecture, interior design, project management, master planning/urban planning, programming, and cost management.
