Graduates earn 1,155 degrees, certificates from the University of West Alabama


About 71.1 percent of the 1,155 degrees and certificates handed out by the University of West Alabama in 2017-18 were to students in education programs, making them the most popular programs that year, according to the latest disclosure from the U.S. Department of Education.

The agency's National Center for Education Statistics shows the public institution in Livingston conferred 658 master's degrees and 116 certificates in education programs.

But the single most popular program was for a master's degree in elementary education and teaching. Data shows the school gave out 112 master's degrees in elementary education and teaching, followed by 107 master's degrees in counselor education/school counseling and guidance services and 98 master's degrees in secondary education and teaching.

The university enrolled 4,646 students for 2017-18, including 2,111 in undergraduate programs and 2,535 in graduate programs.
